Go Up to External Data Objects (Importing and Exporting)

You can import or update External Data Objects from ER/Studio DA files using a wizard. This import parses the DM1 file to extract the appropriate data objects. These extracted objects are then loaded into the application’s storage.

1 From the main menu, select File > Import > From ER/Studio Data Architect > External Data Objects > Create New....

In the Model View, right-click the External Data Objects node and select Import > From ER/Studio Data Architect > Create New External Data Objects....
2 In the Import External Data Objects dialog specify the source of the external data objects by selecting an ER/Studio DA diagram. You can find the file you want to import by clicking Browse. The Data Source Name that is created is based on the imported file name. However, you can change this name if desired.
3 Click Next and the Model Selection panel opens. Specify which models you want imported into the data source. The model selection is based on the file you selected in the previous panel. To narrow down your selection, you can expand the models available and select specific models you want to import.
4 When you click Next, the Object Selection panel opens. The objects that appear are based on the selections you made in the previous panel. You have three tabs containing imported objects
Tab Description

Entities

Displays a list of all available entities based on the selection made in the Model Selection panel. Expand the nodes to gain access to the individual entities.

Tables

Displays a list of all available tables based on the selection made in the Model Selection panel. Expand the nodes to gain access to the individual tables.

Views

Displays a list of all available Views based on the selection made in the Model Selection panel. Expand the nodes to gain access to the individual views.

5 Select the object(s) you want to import and click ICON ADD ARROW.PNG. You can select multiple objects by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking individual objects. You can also import the entire list by clicking ICON ADD ALL ARROW.PNG.
6 Click Finish and an dialog opens telling you that the import was successful. Click Details... for information on what was imported. You can print or save this information.
7 Click OK and the imported objects appear in the Reference Objects node under the Data Source name that you created in the first panel of the wizard.
