Using the Error Logging View

Go Up to Error Logging View

You can import or export an error log, and filter an error log. If you need additional information on a specific error you can also open the Events Details dialog.

Importing an Error Log

  1. Open the Error Logging view.
  2. Click the Import Log icon ICON ERROR LOG IMPORT.PNG on the toolbar and the Open dialog box opens.
    Note: The default location is your current project file and the default file extension is .log.
  3. Select the log file you want to import, and then click OK. The imported file appears in the Error Logging view.

Exporting an Error Log

  1. Open the Error Logging view.
  2. Click the Export Log icon ICON ERROR LOG EXPORT.PNG on the toolbar and the Save As dialog opens.
  3. Select the folder to which you want to export the log, and then name the file. The default location is your current project file and the default file extension is .log.
  4. Click OK and the file is exported.

Filtering an Error Log

You can use this command to select which event types to filter in the view display. This filter controls what is displayed in the error view, not the error log.

You can specify several options in the Filter Commands dialog box. The table below describes these options:

Element Explanation

Information

Select this option to display Information event types in the Error Logging View.

Warning

Select this option to display Warning event types in the Error Logging View.

Error

Select this option to display Error event types in the Error Logging View.

Limit Visible Events

Enter the number of events you want to appear in the Error Logging View.

Show Events Logging During:

All Sessions: Displays all events logged for all sessions. Most Recent Session: Displays only events logged during your most recent session.

Opening the Log Filters Dialog Box

  1. In the Error Logging view click ICON MENU DROPDOWN.PNG in the toolbar and a shortcut menu opens.
  2. Select Filters and the Log Filters dialog opens.

  3. Select the Event Types to be displayed: Information, Warning and/or Error.
  4. Enter the number of events to be displayed in the Limit Visible Events text box.
  5. Select which logging session you want displayed.
  6. Click OK and the changes made appear in the Error Logging view.

Using the Event Details Dialog Box

You can view details of each error message logged in the Error Logging view.

  1. Right-click an error in the Error Logging view.
  2. Select Event Details to open the Event Details dialog.

The following information is displayed:

Event Detail Description

Date

Displays the date and time the error message was generated.

Severity

Displays the symbol and type of error.

Message

Displays information on the cause of the error generated.

Exception Stack Trace

Displays the exceptions generated.

Session Data

Displays the build identification number for Eclipse.
