Copying and Moving Model Elements

The move and copy operations with model elements can be performed using the context menu commands, keyboard shortcuts, and drag operations.

To copy a model element

  1. In the Diagram View or Model View, select the elements to be copied.
  2. To copy the selected elements on the clipboard:
    • Right-click one of the selected elements and choose Copy on the context menu (or press CTRL+C).
  3. To paste the elements from the clipboard:
    • Right-click the target location and choose Paste on the context menu.
    • Select the target location and press CTRL+V.
Result: The selected elements are copied to the target location.

To move a model element

  1. In the Diagram View or Model View, select an element (or several elements) to be moved.
  2. To cut the selected elements on the clipboard:
    • Right-click one of the selected elements and choose Cut on the context menu (or press CTRL+X).
  3. To paste from the clipboard:
    • Right-click the target location and choose Paste on the context menu.
    • Select the target location and press CTRL+V.
Result: The selected elements are moved to the target location.

To move (or copy) model elements using the drag operations

  1. In the Diagram View or Model View, select an element (or several elements) to be moved or copied.
    • To move the selected elements, press the mouse button on one of the selected elements and, holding the button pressed, drag the elements to the target location, and then release the button.
      Result: The selected elements are moved to the target location.
    • To copy the selected elements, press CTRL and, while holding CTRL pressed, drag the selected elements to the target location, and then release the button.
      Result: The selected elements are copied to the target location.
Note: You can copy an entire diagram. In this case, elements addressed on this diagram are not copied; a new diagram contains shortcuts to these elements.
Note: If you drag an element outside the borders of the Diagram View, the diagram automatically scrolls to follow the dragging.
