Controlling the Search in IDE Insight

To narrow the search or to show all matches (Alt+A toggle)

By default, the IDE Insight box shows a narrowed match list -- that is, the box lists all categories that contain a matching item, along with the single "best" matching item in each category. You can, however, specify that all matching results are to be displayed, not just a single match.

You can press Alt+A to toggle between showing all categories (with one "best" match per category) or all matches (which might require you to scroll to find the match you seek). The Alt+A toggle is useful when you are looking for a term that generates many matches, such as "unit" or "project", or when you have typed only a letter or two into the text box.

Use the Alt+A toggle to control the display of results, as follows:

  • To display all matching items within every category that contains a match, press Alt+A or click the Show All Matches button.
  • To narrow the search and display only the single "best" matching item in all the categories that contain a match, press Alt+A or click the Collapse List button.
