Jump to: navigation, search

Go Up to Creating External Data Objects (Evaluation Guide)

1 From the main menu, select File>Import>External Data Objects>Create New.
2 In the Import External Data Objects dialog the ER/Studio diagram is selected by default. You can find the file you want to import by clicking Browse. This example uses “Northwind”, a sample file that was installed with EA/Studio. Go to the x:/Program Files/IDERA/ERStudio/samples/ERStudioModels, select Northwind.dm1 and click Open.
3 The Data Source Name that is created is based on the imported file name. However, you can change this name if you want. We will leave the Data Source Name as Northwind. Click Next and the Model Selection panel opens.
4 Specify which models you want imported into the data source. The model selection is based on the file you selected in the previous panel. Select the model named “Northwind Production (SQL Server 2000)” and click Next.
5 When you click Next, the Object Selection panel opens. The lists that appear are based on the selections you made in the previous panel. You have three tabs containing imported objects: Entities, Tables, and Views. For purposes of this session we will import only the tables so click the Tables tab.
6 Click Include All Tables and all tables for the selected diagram are now selected.
7 Click Finish and the tables in the ER/Studio diagram are placed in a subnode in the External Data Objects node.
