Error Logging View

All generated error messages for ER/Studio Business Architect, appear in the log. Various icons are used to identify the type of error. When using the Error Logging view, the toolbar allows you to manipulate the log. The following information is displayed for each error in the Error Logging View:

Column	Description
Message	Displays information on what caused the error to occur.
Plug-in	Displays the plug-in where the error occurred.
Date	Displays the date and time the error message was generated.

The following message types are displayed: Fatal, Error, Warning, Information, Debug, and Trace.

Displaying the Error Logging View

To display the Logging view when hidden, do the following:

1 On the Window menu, select Show View.

2 Select Error Logging from the pull-right menu.

Modifying the Error Logging View

You can modify the Error Logging view. When you right-click the Error Logging tab, a shortcut menu opens displaying the following commands:

Command	Description
Detached	Click this command to detach the view from the application’s frame and position it anywhere within or outside the application window. This state of detachment is called floating. This is a toggle command and the Detached command is checked once it is selected.
Restore	Restores a maximized window to its original size within the application.
Move	You move a single view or an entire tab group. When you select this command, the select view or tab group is outlined with a gray box. Move the gray box to a selected location and click once. The view or tab group is placed in the new location.
Size	You can the resize the top, bottom, left or right side on a view. Click Size and then select one of the four available sides. The selected side is replaced by a dark blue line. Place the cursor on this line and the cursor changes to resize. Hold down the button and move the side to the desired location.
Minimize	This command hides the view and only the icon and tab representing the view are displayed in the application window. Click once in the tab to restore the view to its original size and location.
Maximize	The view is expanded to fill the entire application window.
Close	This command closes the selected view. You can also click Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination located in the tab to close the view.

Event Type Icons

The table below displays the icons used to specify the state of the event type.

Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Error markers are often used to indicate the source location of syntax or compilation errors.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Warning markers indicate the source location of, for example, compilation warnings.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Information markers indicate the source location of information only tasks.

Error Logging Toolbar

The table below details the icons and their function on the Error Logging toolbar.

Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Copy	A displayed log entry can be copied to the clipboard.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Clear Log Viewer	Clears all error messages from the Error Logging view.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Delete Log	Deletes all logged events from the view and the log file no longer exists. A message dialog opens asking for confirmation of the action.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Open Log	Launches a text viewer showing the contents of the log file.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Restore Log	After a log is cleared it can be restored. Note: : If a file has been deleted, it cannot be restored.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Export Log	When you select this icon, a Save As dialog opens. The displayed Error Log file can be saved in a directory of your choice and is saved as a text file with a .log file extension.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Import Log	You can import an existing .log file.
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination	Event Details	Opens a dialog listing details about the event messages.
