Reference Objects Palette

The Reference Object Palette displays the four main reference objects as well as the Link and Usage connectors. Domains are not visualized on diagrams so the Domain element icon is not available on the Reference Object’s palette.

Reference Object	Palette Icon	Definition
Application
Business Element		A singular element of the business that can be bound to different business attributes across conceptual models. A Business Element can be used to seed business attributes in a business entity.
Business Rule		A business rule is a policy, practice, or formula related to the operation and enforcement of business practices.
Business Unit		A business unit is an organizational area within or external to an enterprise.
Link		This link displays high-level views of information requirements. This type is used to simply relate objects together. The link you create is labeled “conceptual”.
Stewards		A steward is a person or organization responsible to, or associated with a model element.
Usage		When you select this option you create a link that enables you to designate a usage type: create, read, update, or delete database records. The connection you create is labeled “usage”
