Thank you for using ER/Studio Data Architect, previously known as ER/Studio, the award-winning data modeling application for logical and physical database design and construction. ER/Studio Data Architect's (ER/Studio DA) powerful, multi-level design environment addresses the everyday needs of database administrators, developers and data architects who build and maintain large, complex database applications.


ER/Studio Data Architect's progressive interface and processes have been logically organized to effectively address the ease-of-use issues that have plagued data modeling tools for the past decade. The application facilitates your ability to create, understand and manage the mission-critical database designs within an enterprise. It offers strong logical design capabilities, bidirectional synchronization of logical and physical designs, automatic database construction, accurate reverse engineering of databases, and powerful HTML-based documentation and reporting facilities. Before you use ER/Studio, please read the information below.

Release 10.0.2 features summary:

MongoDB Authentication Options

When Reverse Engineering a MongoDB database, further authentication options are now available.

MongoDB Forward Engineering

Using the The DDL Generation Wizard it is now possible forward engineer a MongoDB database.

Sybase IQ 15 and 16 now supported

We have now included support for the latest versions of Sybase IQ. This support includes ODBC connection, SQL Import, and forward engineering a database.

Release 10.0.1 features summary:

New 64 bit Version

ER/Studio Data Architect and ER/Studio Repository now run as a native 64-bit application. Separate installers let you choose between 32-bit and 64-bit applications. You must be using 64-bit versions of DBMS platform drivers when using the 64-bit version of ER/Studio Data Architect.

Performance Improvement

With an improved memory model, the Model Repository has had a performance upgrade, particularly for large models.

Hive DB Support

As part of the increasing support for big data platforms, this release provides native support for reverse-engineering Hive 0.12 and 0.13.

MongoDB Support

As part of the expanded platform support and to enable better visibility into metadata for unstructured data formats (including a notation to show nested data hierarchies that is unique to ER/Studio), this release provides native support for MongoDB 2.4 and 2.6.

Import Bridges update

The Import Bridges have been updated with all the latest support. For the latest list, please see our MetaWizard Import/Export Bridges pages.

Sax Basic updated

Version 10 of Sax Basic, now called WinWrap basic, has been upgraded to the latest version. This update includes all the latest features and updated documentation.

MIMB 8.0 Updates

The MetaWizard bridges now include 64-bit ERWin import bridges.

Important Installation Notes

  • If you are going to install the x64 bit client version of ER/Studio Data Architect you must uninstall any previously installed x32 bit versions of the software.
  • To install ER/Studio Data Architect on Microsoft Windows, you must have administrative privileges. Once you have installed ER/Studio Data Architect, you can then log in as a standard or limited user and use the application without having administrative privileges.
  • In order to run ER/Studio Data Architect, you must provide valid licensing information.
  • When you install ER/Studio Data Architect, certain files and directories that were previously stored under the Program Files folder are now by default installed to system-specified application data directories.
  • During installation, the following directories are created:
    • For Datatype Mapping Editor files, which is also the default location for user-generated Datatype Mapping files:
      • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Embarcadero\ERStudioDA_X.X\DatatypeMapping
      • Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Embarcadero\ERStudioDA_X.X\DatatypeMapping
    • For Automation Handler files, which is also the default location for sample macros:
      • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Embarcadero\ERStudioDA_X.X\Macros
      • Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Embarcadero\ERStudioDA_X.X\Macros
    • For sample model files, for which a shortcut is generated in the ER/Studio Data Architect program group:
      • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Embarcadero\ERStudioDA_X.X\Sample Models
      • Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Embarcadero\ERStudioDA_X.X\Sample Models
  • When the application is run for the first time, the following directories are created by ER/Studio Data Architect:
    • Directories used by the Repository client to transfer files to and from the Repository server:

Important Release Advisory

ER/Studio Portal is no longer supported by ER/Studio Data Architect. Most functionality formerly provided by ER/Studio Portal is now provided by ER/Studio Team Server. Users that formerly used the Repository tab to browse the portal can use a Web browser instead.

ERS-23914 ER/Studio now supports the Hortonworks Hive ODBC driver.
ERS-24042 The MetaWizard now supports MS SQL Sever Analysis Services 2012.
ERS-24059 The "Selectively Update Index" macros have been fixed to run properly in WinWrap Basic.
ERS-24082 The Reverse-Engineer wizard now properly stores multiple database selections in the quicklaunch.
ERS-24094 The "Move-Up Key Columns" sample macro has been improved to reflect the column order of the parent table(s).
ERS-24126 Several issues with importing Sparx Enterprise Architect have been resolved in the MetaWizard.
ERS-24141 The nullability of a column is no longer changed when changing datatypes.
ERS-24145 The application now remains stable when switching between Teradata tables within the table editor.
ERS-24213 ER/Studio now supports reverse-engineering Teradata tables with names longer than 30 characters.
ERS-24248 The "Export Meta Data to Excel Version 2.1" sample macro now exports PK and FK properties properly.
ERS-24256 Relationship verb phrase positions are now saved properly.
ERS-24387 Performance when modeling in a diagram that has many submodels has been greatly improved.

ERS-16201 The Macro Editor now works properly with the Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Library.
ERS-16441 Reserved words in SQL Server extended properties are no longer automatically quoted.
ERS-21372 Repository Analyze scripts for Oracle do not use COMPUTE and ESTIMATE clauses as per Oracle recommendations.
ERS-21800 Fixed specific search and replace error using Universal Naming Utility.
ERS-22313 The Compare Wizard no longer quotes numeric values when generating DDL for sub-partitions.
ERS-22864 Performance saving large files has been greatly improved.
ERS-23207 SQL Server tables that have an apostrophe in the name are now properly reverse-engineered.
ERS-23417 The Edit button is now enabled in the Data Lineage tab of the popup column editor.
ERS-23442 The "Data Lineage Import from Excel" macro has been updated.
ERS-23458 The "Import Reference Values from Excel" macro now imports reference values with numeric names.
ERS-23463 It is now possible to set a TINYINT column to UNSIGNED using the automation interface.
ERS-23465 New indexes in the Generic DBMS platform are no longer created as unique.

ERS-23526 The MappedObjectName automation property now returns physical names when appropriate.
ERS-23534 Subtypes in.erwin files are now imported properly.
ERS-23562 The Report Wizard now remains stable when generating a report with the Attribute/Column Properties option checked.
ERS-23684 Differences are no longer reported incorrectly for attributes with the Numeric datatype.
ERS-23689 Import ERwin files containing foreign key loops is working properly.
ERS-23703 Width field is no longer changed incorrectly when Domains with Numeric datatype are used.
ERS-23706 Drag attributes between entities in very large models is no longer generating errors.
ERS-23675 MongoDB JSON objects are not fully supported in Automation Interface.
ERS-23878 Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in TSVisualization ActiveX loadExtensionFactory.
ERS-23865 The Tablespace information is now correctly generated for Oracle physical models.


Known Issues
ERS-23001 Performance issues when navigating and editing tables.
ERS-24257 Cannot connect to MongoDB with URI in Compare/Merge wizard.
ERS-23678 Reverse engineering from MongoDB creates incorrect results with fields or arrays using different data types.
ERS-23791 Compare/Merge fails to properly merge MongoDB objects in some cases.
