Creating a Data Source
Go Up to Working with Data Sources
To create a data source:
- Select Data Sources.
- Click the New Data Source button on the upper-right corner.
- On the New Data Source dialog box that opens:
- Enter a Name for your new data source. Names of data sources in Team Server must be unique.
- Write a Definition that provides detailed information about the data source, such as its purpose and audience. You can also optionally enter a Production Level, Location, and Status as per your convenience.
- Select from the Type combo box the database management system (DBMS) that stores the database.
- Fill the fields after the Type field and before the Custom Properties field. These fields change depending on the selected DBMS Type. See Data Source Fields for a Specific Database Management System.
- Optionally, under Custom Properties, you can define custom properties for the data source. For each property:
- Enter the Name of the property.
- Enter the Value for the property.
- Click Add to add the defined property-value pair to the list of properties of the data source.
- Under Login Credentials, you can define the login credential to connect the data source. If you prefer, you can do this step later.
- Select one option:
- User/Password: Define User Name and Password for the login credential. You can edit it later to modify or include more information.
- OS Authentication: Enter Trusted Host and Role.
- Use existent Login Credentials. Allow you to choose one that already exists.
- No login information. Allows you to create or relate the login credential later.
- Select one option:
- Click Save to save your new data source.
Note: Adding data sources in Team Server makes them available into ER/Studio Data Architect for the purposes of connecting or mapping.
