AppWave Quick Start

The AppWave Enterprise Store is for Windows software acquired by and made available within organizations for fast and easy “mobile-like” access to software. All the end users in your organization can search, browse, and run Windows software instantly, from anywhere. Administrators can track software usage real time with comprehensive reports on demand. These reports give you critical information needed to track what software to maintain and support.

The AppWave Enterprise Store allows your company to have instant access to applications without installation:

1. Install AppWave in a location accessible to all team members.
2. Download and run the AppWave Browser in the client machine to connect to AppWave.
3. Create and manage users and groups to access the applications you decide.
4. Master your own applications and test all the Embarcadero Instant Trials.
5. Centrally provide, manage and update products and licenses.

Installing Appwave

Take the following steps to deploy the AppWave Enterprise Store (AppWave) for your organization:

Register to get an EDN account

1. Download the AppWave installation file from: https://downloads.embarcadero.com/free/AppWave

   Note: Choose either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version. These installation files include the full AppWave application: Host or Server, Browser, and Studio.

   It is important to note that currently only the 32-bit version allows you to master Apps in the AppWave Studio.

2. Sign-in with your EDN (Embarcadero Developer Network) account or register to get one. All the fields are required.

   Note: Check your email for further information.

   After registering, you have free access to the Embarcadero Developer Network (EDN), where you can download free trials of our products, access special community areas...

3. The download includes all three AppWave components:
   1. AppWave: Your own private PC App Store: a centralized repository of your PC Apps, that controls user access, houses App metadata, supports usage reporting, etc.
   2. AppWave Studio: The authoring tool that lets you turn PC Windows applications into AppWave Apps.
   3. AppWave Browser: A dedicated App browser that provides a window into your private storefront, that lets you search, rate, review, and run AppWave Apps.
4. Double-click the file to start the installation.
5. A wizard guides you through the installation process:
   1. Panel One - Accepts the terms of the license agreement.
   2. Panel Two - Select the installation option: Default Installation by default.
   3. Panel Three - Review rge pre-installation summary and start the installation.
   4. Panel Four - This panel tracks the process of the installation.
   5. Panel Five: Install complete.

   Note: If you change the installation option to Custom Installation more panels appear to choose the installation folder, the location for the application repository and the AppWave ports.

6. Accept the EULA (End User License Agreement)
7. Now you can access http://<servername>/aaserver/welcome.spg to administrate your AppWave. Go to Admin User Guide to get more details about the configuration options.

   Note: You can access the same functionality in the Admin tab of the AppWave Browser.

System Requirements

AppWave 32-bit Minimum Requirements

• Intel Core i3 processor or higher
• 2 GB of RAM
• Basic install requires about 2GB with an additional 100 GB for the repository of initial and future product downloads and 100 GB for cache.
• High resolution monitor (1024 x 768), 16-bit display or greater
• AppWave is supported on the following operating systems:
  • Windows XP SP3
  • Windows 2003
  • Windows 2008 R2
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8

AppWave 64-bit Minimum Requirements

Requirements for the 64-bit version of AppWave are the same as for the 32-bit version, with the following additions:

• AppWave is supported on the following operating systems:
  • Windows 2003 64-bit
  • Windows 2008 R2
  • Windows 2012
  • Windows 7 64-bit
  • Windows 8 64-bit

Deploying AppWave Browser to the Users

Once the AppWave Enterprise is set and running, the users need the AppWave Browser (the client) to connect to the host in order to run applications within the private catalog. Using the AppWave Browser the users can run Apps and access application information on your private AppWave and on the AppWave Public Store. Follow these instructions, and substitute the correct values for the AppWave host name and port:

1. From an internet browser connect to AppWave at:

   http://<serverhostname>:<portnumber>/aaserver

2. To install AppWave Browser, on the AppWave HOME page, click Install.
3. Save AppWave Browser to disk; the download location depends on your browser setting.
4. When the download is complete, run the installer.
5. Accept the End User License Agreement.

Note: Users that have access to the AppWave Enterprise can easily download and install AppWave Browser ( the client) in their computers.

You can also deploy AppWave Browser as an administrator, for example if the users have not the appropriate role to install the product by themselves. For more information about deploying AppWave Browser within your network using the command line go to Providing Users with AppWave Browser.

Folder, User, and Group Management

The possibility of managing folders, users and groups allows the administrator to restrict users and groups to a certain set of products and licenses available on AppWave Enterprise Store (AppWave).

Grouping users enables you to grant or deny access to applications to the whole group at once, making the user administration more efficient in an environment where there are many users.

License Management

AppWave allows you to centarlly provide. manage and update your Embarcadero and third-party software and licenses inside your own firewall.

Creating Your Own Apps

The AppWave Studio is an application within the AppWave Browser where you can master App versions of existing applications or create App versions from scratch. The mastering process creates an application that can be streamed from AppWave and then run locally on your desktop without installation. This option allows most applications to be run on a locked-down desktop. There are no conflicts with other applications, no writing to the system areas of their registry, or modifying shared DLLs.

EMBT Trials

Embarcadero offers you the possibility of trying the products during a period of time.

Users can download EMBT applications from the Private catalog. During the free period you need to set up a trial license. Set Up Licenses.
