Setting up a client for concurrent licensing
Concurrent, or floating, licensing allows multiple users to share the same license, one at the time. Licenses are not assigned to specific users, however licenses can be assigned to groups. User restrictions can be setup in ELC Admin at Concurrent Users page or directly in the
<ELC>\bin\conf\userlist-concurrent.txt file. See Configuring the user list file for concurrent licenses for instructions on editing this file.
If user tries to start a client product, and no concurrent licenses are available, they receive an error message. That user cannot start the product until another concurrent user stops using the product. A concurrent license is available for a new user within one minute from the previous user exiting the product.
Typically the client product sends a request to the licensing server every minute to renew and keep the license. If the licensing server does not receive a ping from the client product, the license is released.
To set up a product for concurrent licensing
- Install an Embarcadero product that is enabled for the ELC concurrent licensing, if one is not already installed.
- Place client license file into c:\ProgramData\Embarcadero directory. Concurrent file name is
concurrent_XXXXXX.slip, where XXXXX is the certificate number.
- Start the product. The product is now sending concurrent license requests to the ELC. Licensing information is available from Help | License Manager.
NOTE: A user of an Embarcadero product can manually check out a license for offline use from the product UI, as long as offline usage setting on the ELC side is not zero. To check out a license, select Help | License Manager from the product's main menu, select a product or suite, and enter the duration in hours.
